A builder in Punawale has come under scrutiny for displaying promotional banners of a residential project without obtaining prior permission from civic authorities. The banners were put up directly at the construction site, which led to a complaint being filed with the Sky Sign and Licensing Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
In Pimpri-Chinchwad, banners, posters, hoardings, kiosks and flex boards have been officially banned. Despite this, several real estate ventures continue to flout norms by promoting their projects across the city. The proliferation of unauthorised displays has led to widespread visual pollution, exposing what residents describe as the corporation’s failure to enforce its own rules.
The Rohit Group’s residential project in survey number 20/2/2 near Kate Vasti has come under scrutiny after hoardings and banners were spotted at its site office without approval.
Sources confirmed that the builder had neither secured permission nor paid the necessary fees to erect the advertisements. No clearance was taken from PCMC’s licensing department before the banners and hoardings were placed at the site.
“The builder has promoted the project using unauthorised banners and hoardings, misleading the public. This violates section 244 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and goes against sky sign regulations. These illegal displays create inconvenience and must be removed immediately, with suitable action taken against those responsible,” said Sumit Sharma, complainant.
“A complaint was received against Rohit Group for placing unauthorised banners and hoardings at their site in Punawale. After an inspection by the licensing staff, all such displays were removed. Penalty action has also been taken for violating norms,” said Rajesh Aghale, Deputy Commissioner, Sky Sign and Licensing Department, PCMC.
Sources say the builder failed to secure the necessary approvals before advertising the project, violating municipal rules. The incident has also drawn criticism towards officials in the PCMC’s permit section, who are being accused of turning a blind eye to the unauthorised activity.
PCMC authorities are now reportedly investigating the matter, and action may be taken against both the builder and any officials found negligent in enforcing the rules.
