Mumbai Inaugurates India’s Largest Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock

Mumbai marked a major milestone in maritime infrastructure today with the inauguration of the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Indira Dock. Recognized as India’s largest cruise terminal, the facility is set to transform the cruise tourism landscape in the country.

Spanning an impressive 4,15,000 square feet, the terminal is equipped with 72 check-in counters and advanced passenger handling facilities. It is designed to accommodate up to five cruise ships simultaneously and can manage approximately 1 million passengers annually, making it a significant boost for both tourism and port infrastructure in Mumbai.

The MICT is a key project under the Cruise Bharat Mission, aimed at promoting India as a premier destination for cruise tourism and improving maritime infrastructure across major ports. The terminal is expected to enhance the passenger experience with modern amenities, efficient embarkation and disembarkation processes, and improved logistics for cruise operators.

Officials at the inauguration highlighted the terminal’s role in boosting economic activity, creating employment opportunities, and supporting the growth of India’s cruise industry. By providing world-class facilities, the MICT aims to attract international cruise liners and make Mumbai a hub for regional and global cruise operations.

This development is seen as part of India’s broader strategy to expand maritime tourism and improve infrastructure at major ports, aligning with the government’s vision to strengthen India’s presence in the global cruise sector.

With MICT now operational, Mumbai is poised to emerge as a major cruise tourism destination, offering travelers seamless access to India’s west coast while providing a significant impetus to local trade and tourism.
