Sahibganj: The Sahibganj police have arrested a youth in possession of an illegal country-made double-barrel gun. Addressing a press conference in his office, SDPO Kishore Tirkey informed that late Saturday evening, SP Amit Kumar Singh received a tip-off that a person was roaming with a weapon near an abandoned stone crusher in the Lohanda area under Jirwabadi police station.
Acting on the information, a police team was formed under the leadership of SDPO Kishore Tirkey. The team conducted a raid and successfully apprehended a 25-year-old youth near the abandoned crusher. Upon searching him, the police recovered a 62 cm long illegal country-made double-barrel gun made of iron.
During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Maneshwar Mandal, son of Kashi Mandal, and a resident of Soti Chowki Khuthari. The SDPO stated that the arrested youth does not have any prior criminal record. He was allegedly delivering the illegal weapon to another criminal.
The police have identified several other individuals linked to this case who have criminal backgrounds, and efforts are underway to apprehend them soon. A case has been registered against the accused at Jirwabadi police station, and he is being sent to jail.
The raid was carried out by Jirwabadi Police Station In-Charge Shashi Singh, Sub-Inspectors Rohit Kumar and Birsa Oraon, Assistant Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar, Havildar Ravindra Thakur, Constable Dharmveer Singh, and others.
