Advanced Trauma Care CME Workshop Held in Pune; Medical Students Trained in Life-Saving Techniques

Pune – A (CME) Continuing Medical Education workshop on Trauma Care was successfully conducted on December 13 at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College, Pune. The workshop aimed to provide medical students and interns with in-depth training on trauma management, emergency response, and the latest advancements in trauma care technology. Organized under the guidance of leading medical experts, the session focused on enhancing clinical decision-making and hands-on skills in handling critically injured patients.

The workshop covered essential aspects of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), an internationally recognized protocol for trauma assessment and management. Participants were trained in primary and secondary survey techniques, which help in rapidly identifying life-threatening conditions and prioritizing emergency interventions. Special emphasis was placed on the management of head trauma (traumatic brain injury – TBI), chest trauma (including rib fractures, pneumothorax, and cardiac tamponade), abdominal trauma (solid organ injury, hollow viscus perforation, and intra-abdominal hemorrhage), and pelvic fractures, which often present with severe hemorrhagic shock.

The workshop was led by Dr. Shilpa Pratinidhi (Dean, BAVMC, Pune), with active participation from senior faculty members, including Dr. Neeta D’Souza, Dr. Ananta Kulkarni, Dr. Ashwini, Dr. Shah, Dr. Tushar, Dr. Shyam, Dr. Swapnil, and others. These experts provided clinical case discussions, live demonstrations, and skill-based learning modules to ensure a comprehensive understanding of trauma care.

The workshop concluded on a successful note, with students appreciation for the hands-on approach and evidence-based training provided. Many students highlighted that the knowledge and technical expertise gained during the session would be instrumental in managing real-world trauma cases effectively. The event marked a significant step in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical emergency care, reinforcing the importance of structured trauma education in medical training.
