New Delhi :Security has been significantly heightened in the Jahangirpuri area of Delhi ahead of the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, scheduled to take place over the weekend. The move comes in response to proposed religious processions by several Hindu organizations, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which have drawn increased attention from law enforcement agencies.
A senior Delhi Police official confirmed on Saturday that precautionary measures are being taken to ensure peace and order during the festival. “As a precautionary measure, Rapid Action Force (RAF) units and additional Delhi Police personnel have been deployed in sensitive pockets of Jahangirpuri,” the officer said. The decision follows a detailed security assessment and coordination between police, paramilitary forces, and local administration.
Jahangirpuri, a densely populated area in northwest Delhi, witnessed communal tensions during the same festival in 2022, when a clash broke out between two communities following a religious procession. Since then, the area has remained under special watch during major festivals, and this year’s Hanuman Jayanti is no exception.
Authorities are reportedly leaving no stone unturned in preparing for a peaceful celebration. Drone surveillance, CCTV monitoring, and ground-level intelligence gathering are being utilized to maintain real-time awareness of the situation. Barricades have been placed at key junctions, and security checkpoints have been set up to monitor the movement of vehicles and individuals entering the area.
“Local police officers have been directed to maintain constant contact with community leaders and organizers to ensure coordination and mutual understanding,” the official added. Delhi Police has also issued strict guidelines for the organizers, asking them to adhere to designated routes and timings for the processions, and to avoid the use of provocative slogans or loudspeakers beyond permissible limits.
In addition to the deployment of security personnel, a special control room has been established to oversee operations and quickly respond to any signs of unrest. The police are also working closely with religious groups to promote communal harmony and discourage any attempts to incite violence.
Residents of Jahangirpuri have been urged to cooperate with the authorities and report any suspicious activity. Flag marches and foot patrols are being conducted regularly to reassure the public and deter potential miscreants.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has personally reviewed the security arrangements and appealed to all communities to celebrate the festival with peace and brotherhood. “Hanuman Jayanti is a day of devotion and celebration. We request citizens to respect each other’s sentiments and maintain harmony,” he said in a statement.
The enhanced security presence is expected to remain in place until the festivities conclude. With collaborative efforts between law enforcement and local communities, officials are hopeful for a peaceful and incident-free Hanuman Jayanti in the national capital.
