‘responsible And Sustainable Tourism Need Of Hr In U’khand’

DEHRADUN: The participants at a brainstorming event called for the need for responsible tourism in Uttarakhand. They reiterated the need for sustainable development education and waste management, among other measures.

The discussion was organised at VoW Cafe on Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun.

Hemant Kochar, chair, Uttarakhand Chapter-PHD Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the 12 different models of tourism and advocated the need for further research within the 12 models. He said, “We have to research as to what kind of tourists are coming to Uttarakhand, what are they giving us and what are they taking from here.”

Sanjeev Chopra, director of the Valley of the Words Festival, said, “Tourism is a great medium for promotion of culture. Through this, we can take our traditions, food and products to other communities. For this, all the stakeholders related to tourism will have to work on responsible tourism.” Kiran Bhatt Todaria, managing director, Indo Ganga Holidays spoke about the development of the rafting and tourism activities in Rishikesh during the last 30-35 years.
