Pune: Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has issued strict instructions to civic officials to take immediate action against the rising number of encroachments in the Parvati division — one of the most congested zones in the city.
According to civic sources, areas such as Market Yard, Bibwewadi, and surrounding localities have witnessed a surge in unauthorized structures and roadside vendors, leading to severe traffic congestion and public inconvenience.
Commissioner Ram emphasized that encroachments not only hinder smooth vehicular movement but also affect civic amenities and pedestrian safety. He directed zonal officers to initiate coordinated drives to remove illegal constructions and reclaim public spaces.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is expected to launch a special anti-encroachment campaign in the coming days, involving local police support to ensure effective implementation. Civic officials have also been asked to maintain regular monitoring to prevent re-encroachment in cleared areas.
Citizens have welcomed the move, urging the administration to ensure long-term enforcement rather than short-term clean-up operations.
