Bengaluru: Two Arrested for Abusing Actor Ramya Online; 11 More Identified

Bengaluru, August 2 – The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested two individuals in connection with online abuse directed at actor and former Mandya MP Ramya (Divya Spandana), Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh confirmed on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, Singh stated that 11 more suspects have been identified for their role in sharing abusive, obscene, and threatening content on social media. “They will be arrested soon,” he added.

Background

Ramya had approached the Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s office on July 28, submitting a formal complaint against 43 social media accounts. She alleged that these users had sent her obscene messages, including rape and death threats.

The complaint triggered an immediate response from the city’s cybercrime division, leading to an investigation and the first wave of arrests.

Ongoing Investigation

The CCB is currently verifying digital evidence collected from multiple platforms. Police sources say charges will likely include sections of the IT Act and Indian Penal Code related to criminal intimidation, online harassment, and threats to life.

Commissioner Singh emphasized that online abuse, particularly involving threats to women, will be taken seriously and prosecuted swiftly.
