Mumbai: In an unexpected political development on the occasion of Holi, Maharashtra’s opposition Congress party on Friday extended an offer for the Chief Minister’s post to Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. Both leaders have been in a power tussle for the top position since the assembly elections.
Senior Congress leader and MLA Nana Patole stated, “On this auspicious occasion of Holi, we extend our greetings to Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. We are ready to welcome them into our fold and stand in their support. We believe they will feel secure with us.”
The move adds another twist to the ongoing power struggle in the state. Reports had earlier suggested that Eknath Shinde was unhappy over not securing the CM position, while Ajit Pawar had openly expressed his aspirations for the role.
Reacting to the Congress’ offer, CM Eknath Shinde remarked, “Those who take pride in saffron and wear it with honor should join us. Saffron represents Hindutva and Sanatan Dharma, which unites everyone and harbors no hatred.”
With Congress adopting a fresh stance in the battle for Maharashtra’s leadership, all eyes are now on the unfolding political drama.
