Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, has defended the recent GST rationalisation move, stressing that the decision is meant to benefit the entire nation and not just Bihar.
Chaudhary dismissed opposition claims linking the reforms to upcoming Bihar elections, calling them “politically motivated.” He stated that the new GST structure, which introduces two main rates, is aimed at reducing the burden on households and supporting businesses.
While critics argue the reforms were delayed, the minister said the rationalisation is a “long-term step” towards making the tax system simpler and more efficient.

Everyone knows the circumstances under which the GST was implemented. Efforts were going on to introduce it for many years before Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister. Now it has been eight years since GST was successfully implemented… There is some or the other election which is always going on in the country, and this decision is not just for Bihar, but for the whole country,” Chaudhary said.
