Mumbai, July 20 — Renowned filmmaker Chandra Barot, best known for directing the 1978 Bollywood classic “Don” starring Amitabh Bachchan, passed away on Sunday at the age of 86. The filmmaker died of cardiac arrest at Guru Nanak Hospital in Mumbai, where he had been receiving treatment.
Barot had been suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) — a progressive and chronic lung disease — for the past 11 years, his family confirmed.
The film fraternity mourned the loss of the director, whose crime thriller “Don” became a cult hit and was later remade and reimagined in various forms, cementing its legacy in Indian cinema.
Tributes poured in from industry veterans and fans alike, remembering Barot not only for his cinematic vision but also for the lasting impact “Don” had on Hindi cinema.
Barot is survived by his family, who shared their gratitude for the support and condolences during this difficult time.
