Gurugram Elderly Couple Abandoned by Son Still Await Help Despite Rights Panel Intervention

In Gurugram’s upscale Ridgewood Estate, a 96-year-old man and his 86-year-old wife continue to live in distressing conditions, allegedly abandoned by their son who resides abroad. Despite the Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) issuing directives to the Gurugram administration to look into the matter, no official help has reached the elderly couple so far.

Residents of the condominium have expressed deep concern over the couple’s deteriorating condition. One resident shared that the couple often groan loudly, both day and night, which has become a source of emotional distress for neighbors as well. “Nobody visits them. Their health is declining and they seem to be completely isolated,” the resident said.

The community had earlier approached the HHRC after it became evident that the couple was not receiving any support or care from their family or authorities. The HHRC had reportedly directed local officials to intervene and provide assistance, but even weeks later, no action has been taken.

According to residents, not even the condominium’s office-bearers have been contacted by any administrative body. The son, who allegedly abandoned his parents, has also not reached out or made any arrangements for their care.

This case highlights the growing issue of elderly neglect and the lack of timely response from authorities, even when human rights bodies step in. As days go by, the couple continues to wait for help that seems nowhere in sight, sparking questions on the effectiveness of welfare mechanisms meant to protect senior citizens.
