The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the immediate suspension on May 9, 2025, citing national security concerns and the safety of players, staff, and fans.
The decision followed the abandonment of a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala, near the India-Pakistan border, due to security concerns. The BCCI, after consulting with franchises, broadcasters, and otherstakeholders, emphasized that the suspension was in the collective interest of all parties involved.
Broadcaster JioStar has expressed full support for the BCCI’s decision, stating their commitment to prioritizing national interest and working with the BCCI to resume the tournament at an appropriate time.
The suspension affects the remaining 12 group-stage matches and the playoffs, originally scheduled to conclude by May 25. The BCCI is assessing the situation and will announce updates regarding the new schedule and venues after consulting with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
