Ranchi: A serious security concern has emerged from the Ranchi Civil Court premises, where a judge presiding over the NIA (National Investigation Agency) court has reportedly received a death threat. Alongside this alarming message, a threat to orchestrate a jail break to free two high-profile Naxalite leaders—Prashant Bose and Sheila Marandi—has also been issued.
According to police officials, the threat was communicated through a letter sent directly to the judge via speed post. The sender not only threatened to harm the judge but also claimed that arrangements had already been made for a coordinated attack. The letter states that contract killers have been hired and paid in advance, suggesting a well-planned conspiracy in motion.
This development has prompted an official investigation, initiated after Kotwali Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Inspector Adikant Mahto, filed a complaint. Based on his report, a formal case has been registered against four individuals—Arun Kumar, a company named Anamika Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., Saket Tirkey, and one unidentified person.
Upon receiving intelligence from senior police officials regarding the threatening letter, Inspector Mahto immediately visited the court premises. There, he was handed two envelopes—both sent via speed post. Interestingly, each letter bore a different sender’s name, raising suspicion about the attempt to mask the real identity of those involved.
The contents of the letter explicitly mention a plan to attack the judge overseeing cases related to Naxalite activities. It further emphasizes the intent to break into the prison where Prashant Bose and Sheila Marandi are currently being held and secure their release through violent means.
One particularly critical piece of evidence found in the letter is a mobile phone number. When the police traced this number, it was found to be registered under the name of Arun Kumar, who is associated with the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECE Board). This has added a new layer of complexity to the case, as the involvement of someone linked to a state examination body raises questions about identity misuse or deeper connections.
Authorities are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. The NIA court handles several sensitive cases, particularly those involving extremist and insurgent elements, which makes the safety of its judicial officers a top priority. The possibility of an actual jail break plot, combined with threats to the judiciary, has heightened the urgency of the investigation.
Police are now working to verify the authenticity of the letter and the true identities of those named. Surveillance has been increased, and further forensic and cyber analysis is underway to determine the origin of the threats and the potential for real execution of the plan. This incident sheds light on the ongoing threat posed by extremist groups and their desperate attempts to regain control through intimidation and violence.
