Dhalbhum Flags Off Nutrition Fortnight Awareness Rath to Promote Health and Nutrition in East Singhbhum

The Nutrition Fortnight 2025 is being observed from April 8 to April 22 across East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, as part of a nationwide campaign to promote awareness about proper nutrition and health practices. In a significant step toward spreading this message to rural and remote areas, an awareness vehicle—popularly known as the Poshak Rath—was flagged off from the district collectorate premises. The ceremonial flag-off was jointly conducted by Deputy Development Commissioner Mr. Aniket Sachan and Sub-Divisional Officer of Dhalbhum, Mrs. Shatabdi Majumdar.

The launch event also included a collective oath-taking ceremony, where all attendees pledged their commitment to ending malnutrition and promoting a healthy lifestyle, particularly for children, adolescents, and women.

During the flag-off, Mr. Sachan engaged with the District Social Welfare Officer to review the planned activities and outreach strategy for Nutrition Fortnight 2025. Special emphasis was placed on the route and purpose of the awareness vehicle, which is set to travel deep into village areas to disseminate vital nutritional information.

The primary objectives of the campaign include raising awareness about the critical importance of the First 1000 Days of a child’s life, which are crucial for cognitive and physical development. The vehicle will also promote the use of the “Poshan Tracker” app, designed to monitor nutritional support for beneficiaries. Additionally, the community will be educated about summer-specific nutrition interventions to combat malnutrition at the grassroots level, healthy lifestyle practices to prevent obesity among children, and the importance of a balanced diet.

Through visual aids and interactive sessions, the awareness vehicle will encourage residents to include nutritious foods like green leafy vegetables, milk, eggs, and fruits in their daily diet. It will also share tips on safe drinking water practices and hygienic food preparation methods.

A highlight of the occasion was the Nutrition Pledge taken by officials, Anganwadi workers, and members of the community. The pledge reinforced the vision of a malnutrition-free India, where every child, adolescent, and woman is healthy and strong. Participants vowed to spread the message of good nutrition to every household, school, and village, making it a nationwide movement.

Furthermore, the pledge included a strong stance against child marriage, emphasizing community responsibility in preventing such practices to ensure that every child is safe, free, and educated. The officials stressed that nutrition and child protection go hand in hand, and achieving one without the other is incomplete.

Nutrition Fortnight 2025 in East Singhbhum is thus not just an awareness drive, but a people-centric movement aimed at empowering communities with knowledge and practices that promote sustainable health. Through initiatives like the Poshak Rath, the district administration hopes to foster lasting change and ensure a healthier future for the next generation.
