In a chilling update to the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, the Mumbai Police have filed a detailed 16,000-page chargesheet that sheds light on the harrowing night of January 15. The document, backed by CCTV footage from 25 cameras, eyewitness accounts, and statements from key individuals, reveals the terrifying sequence of events that unfolded at the Bandra West residence shared by Saif and his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan.
According to the chargesheet, the accused—identified as Shariful Islam—illegally entered the premises with a knife and a hexablade. CCTV footage captured his movements across various locations within the property, ultimately placing him inside the room of the couple’s younger son, Jehangir (Jeh). The level of planning and the threat he posed became more evident as the evidence unfolded.
Kareena Kapoor Khan’s statement to the police provides a deeply emotional and firsthand account of the incident. She described the moment she discovered her husband bleeding from stab wounds. “He had injuries on his back, neck, and hand,” she stated. “I immediately told him, ‘Forget everything, we need to go to the hospital.’” Kareena also recalled trying to locate the intruder before realizing the house was no longer safe. She acted swiftly, organizing the evacuation of her family, including sons Taimur and Jeh, and all household staff.
The chargesheet also details the events leading up to the attack. Kareena had returned from visiting her friend, Rhea Kapoor, around 1:20 am. At approximately 2:00 am, the caretaker Junu alerted them that someone with a weapon was inside Jeh’s room. What followed was a scene of pure terror. Kareena recalled seeing the intruder, a man dressed in black with a cap, around 5’5” in height, standing near their child holding both a knife and a hexablade. The family’s nurse, Eliyama Philip, had already been injured by then. When Saif intervened, the intruder turned on him, launching a brutal attack.
Despite the chaos, Kareena remained composed and focused on her family’s safety. She instructed staff members—Hari, Ramu, Ramesh, and Paswan—to search the house. When the attacker could not be located, she ordered a full evacuation. Saif, accompanied by their elder son Taimur and a staff member, left for Lilavati Hospital in an autorickshaw. Taimur reportedly insisted on going with his father, a moment Kareena reluctantly agreed to after seeing his resolve.
Kareena quickly contacted her sister Karishma Kapoor and her manager Poonam Damania. The police arrived soon after and launched an extensive search of the property, but the suspect had already vanished.
In his official statement, Saif corroborated Kareena’s version. He explained how he rushed to Jeh’s room upon hearing the threat. He tried to disarm the man but was viciously attacked. Saif suffered multiple injuries before managing to escape with his family to the upper floor, where they locked themselves in a room before fleeing the premises.
As the investigation continues, this case has left the industry and the public in shock. The chargesheet paints a picture of a night filled with fear, courage, and quick thinking by a family caught in an unimaginable situation. Further developments are awaited as the police delve deeper into the motivations behind the attack and the background of the accused.
