New Delhi: Aaradhya Bachchan, daughter of Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has once again approached the Delhi High Court, seeking the removal of misleading and fake videos circulating online about her health.
This fresh petition follows a previous Delhi High Court order directing Google and other platforms to take down such misleading content. Despite the earlier ruling, certain websites and social media handles continue to host the fabricated videos, prompting the 13-year-old granddaughter of legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan to take further legal action.
During the hearing today, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to Google in response to Aaradhya’s petition. The court had previously intervened on April 20, 2023, instructing YouTube to immediately remove videos falsely claiming that Aaradhya was seriously ill or, in some cases, no longer alive.
Emphasizing the importance of an individual’s right to dignity, the court had stated that every person, regardless of celebrity status, deserves respect and protection, particularly concerning their physical and mental health.
Despite the earlier ruling, several digital platforms and websites have failed to comply with the order, leading Aaradhya to file a second petition. Her legal team argues that the continued circulation of such content is not only defamatory but also distressing for a minor.
The matter has now been listed for its next hearing on March 17, 2025.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of misinformation in the digital age, particularly involving celebrities and their families. The increasing spread of fake news through social media and video platforms continues to raise concerns about the need for stricter regulations and prompt action against false content.
With the court now stepping in once again, it remains to be seen what further measures will be taken to ensure compliance and curb the spread of misleading content online.
