Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the BJP President Speculation growing
Speculation is strong within the BJP that Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and current Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, could replace J.P. Nadda as the party’s national president.
However, when reporters in Bhopal asked him about this possibility on August 26, 2025, Chouhan firmly refused to comment on leadership speculation. Instead, he stressed that his attention is entirely on agriculture and rural development
Chouhan said:Agriculture is in every pore of my body.”Farmers are in my breath.”Serving them is worshipof God for me.”
This statement was seen as his way of avoiding political speculation while at the same time underlining his new role in the Union government.
Party insiders, however, note that Chouhan has wide acceptability within the BJP due to his long experience, mild image, and popularity among both cadres and voters. He is being viewed as a possible consensus candidate if the party leadership decides to bring in a new face after Nadda.The Mahabharata / Ancient Technology RemarkAround the same time, Chouhan also made a mythology-based remark that grabbed headlines. While speaking at a cultural event, he referred to episodes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata:He mentioned the Pushpak Viman, the flying chariot described in the Ramayana.
He also referred to descriptions of weapons, missiles, and drones in the Mahabharata.
His point was that India had advanced knowledge and science in ancient times, long before modern Western inventions.
This comment drew both interest and criticism—supporters said it highlighted India’s rich civilizational heritage, while critics argued that such statements mix mythology with history and science.
No official decision has been announced by the BJP on the new party chief.Chouhan remains a top contender, but he has not shown open ambition.
His “farmers-first” focus as Agriculture Minister is being seen as both a genuine commitment and a politically safe answer.
The Mahabharata reference was made in a cultural context, not directly about his possible elevation in the BJP, though it shows his style of mixing tradition with politics.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan is emerging as a serious name in the race for BJP president, but he himself is keeping away from the buzz. Meanwhile, his Mahabharata-linked remarks have added to public debate, though unrelated to his party role.
