Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal at the 2025 Janusz Kusociński Memorial meet in Chorzów, Poland, on May 23. Competing under challenging cold and wet conditions at the Silesian Stadium, Chopra delivered his best throw of 84.14 meters in his sixth and final attempt, moving from third to second place.
Germany’s Julian Weber clinched the gold with a throw of 86.12 meters, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters took bronze with 83.24 meters. This event continued the rivalry between Chopra and Weber, who had also secured gold and silver respectively at the Doha Diamond League the previous week.
Despite the less-than-ideal weather, Chopra maintained his impressive streak of top-two finishes, which now extends to 25 consecutive events since June 2021. His performance in Poland adds to his successful season, following a personal-best throw of 90.23 meters in Doha.
The Janusz Kusociński Memorial, established in 1954, is a prestigious track and field meet held annually in Poland. Chopra’s participation in this event came after the postponement of the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru, providing him with an alternative competitive opportunity.
