The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a warning to the producers of an upcoming film starring Manoj Bajpayee following objections to the film’s title, Ghooskhor Pandat. The controversy has triggered protests in parts of the country, with demonstrators burning effigies of the actor and demanding a change in the title.
According to FWICE, the title has hurt the sentiments of a community, prompting the organisation to intervene and caution the film’s makers against proceeding without addressing the concerns raised. The body has reportedly asked the producers to engage in dialogue and consider corrective measures to avoid disruption during production or release.
Protestors claim that the title uses a derogatory term and portrays a religious or social group in a negative light. Demonstrations were held by community members, some of whom staged symbolic protests by burning effigies to express their anger.
So far, Manoj Bajpayee has not issued a public statement on the matter. The film’s production team is also yet to announce whether it plans to modify the title or take other steps to defuse the situation.
Industry observers note that title-related disputes have increasingly become a flashpoint in recent years, often leading to intervention by film bodies and delays in release schedules. FWICE has indicated that failure to resolve the issue could lead to further action under its internal guidelines.
