Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much-awaited action sequel Akhanda 2 made a solid start at the box office on its opening day, collecting an estimated ₹30.53 crore worldwide. The film witnessed strong occupancy across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, driven largely by Balakrishna’s massive fan following and the festive release window.
Despite the impressive opening, Akhanda 2 fell short of matching the day-one numbers of Balakrishna’s previous blockbuster Veera Simha Reddy, which had recorded a higher opening collection. Trade analysts attribute the gap to tougher competition, higher ticket prices in select regions, and slightly muted occupancy in non-core markets.
Strong mass appeal in Telugu states
Single-screen theatres in major Telugu belts reported near-full shows, especially for early morning and first-day-first-show screenings. Fans celebrated the release with cut-outs, rallies, and special shows, reaffirming Balakrishna’s enduring box office pull in mass circuits.
Multiplex performance, however, remained moderate compared to hardcore fan centres, which impacted the overall tally.
Overseas and non-Telugu markets
In overseas markets, Akhanda 2 registered decent but not exceptional numbers. While Balakrishna’s fan base ensured respectable openings in the US and Gulf regions, the film is yet to gain momentum among neutral audiences.
Can word of mouth push numbers higher?
Trade experts believe the film’s weekend performance will be crucial. If positive word of mouth sustains, Akhanda 2 could see a strong jump on Day 2 and Day 3, helping it bridge the gap with Balakrishna’s earlier releases.
With mass action, powerful dialogues, and a familiar commercial template, the film is expected to remain steady at the box office over the first week, particularly in single-screen-dominated territories.
