The Maharashtra Government has announced a holiday on account of civic elections on December 2.
In Pune district, 18 nagar parishads and nagar panchayats are going to the polls.
However, the holiday will not be applicable to areas under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). “On December 2, there will be a public holiday primarily in rural areas of the 18 local bodies and not in the cities,” said District Collector Jitendra Dudi.
A government resolution (GR) issued on Friday said those employees in the areas where polling will take place will get a paid holiday on December 2. “Citizens living in polling areas but working in non-polling areas will also get a paid holiday,” the GR added.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission (SEC) Friday said the campaigning for nagar parishad and nagar panchayat polls will end at 10 pm on December 1. “After the campaigning deadline ends, political parties will not be allowed to hold meetings, take out marches or use loudspeakers,” the SEC added.
