State BJP General Secretary Anil Sarin stated that they remain “fully committed to Punjab’s interests” and have formally communicated their stand to the MHA. ([The Indian Express][1]) Working President Ashwani Kumar Sharma praised the MHA’s clarification as a reflection of Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to Punjab, and emphasised the state unit’s readiness to engage with the Centre for “pro-Punjab solutions.” ([The Indian Express][1])

Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar echoed the sentiment: “Sentiments of Punjab cannot be ignored… Chandigarh is an integral part of Punjab,” he said, adding that he has sought a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to press their concerns.

Meanwhile, the MHA clarified that no final decision has been taken on the proposal and asserted there is no intention of introducing any Bill on the matter in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

The controversy was triggered by reports that the proposed 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2025 could enable the appointment of a Lieutenant Governor for Chandigarh, thereby reducing Punjab’s administrative influence.
