In a fresh circular issued on September 10, the Supreme Court of India has imposed a strict ban on photography, videography, making reels, interviews, and use of mobile cameras inside its High Security Zone (HSZ), with limited exceptions for official use.
No photography or videography inside the Supreme Court’s High Security Zone, except when done for official purposes.
Use of mobile phones, cameras, tripods, selfie sticks, or other recording equipment for reels, videos, selfies etc. is prohibited in the HSZ.
Media coverage (interviews / live broadcasts) must be conducted only from a designated lawn in the Low Security Zone.
For media personnel, violating the ban may result in restriction of access to the High Security Zone for one month.
Advocates, litigants, interns, law clerks found in violation will be reported to their respective Bar Association or State Bar Council for disciplinary action.
Registry staff or other internal stakeholders will face disciplinary measures as per their department’s rules.
The ban also applies to advocates, litigants, interns, law clerks and registry staff.
Security staff are empowered to deny permission or block persons from taking photos/videos in the HSZ.
