Tribal Girl from Jharkhand’s Dumka, Babita Singh, Makes History by Cracking JPSC 2024

Dumka (Jharkhand): Babita Singh, a young woman from the remote areas of Dumka and belonging to the endangered Mal Pahariya tribe, has created history by being selected as an Administrative Officer through JPSC 2024. Her remarkable achievement has brought pride not only to her community but to the entire state of Jharkhand.

The Mal Pahariya community is one of the primitive tribal groups of Jharkhand, currently on the verge of extinction. Coming from such a marginalized background, Babita’s success in both the 11th and 13th JPSC exams is a powerful testament to resilience, hard work, and determination.

A Journey of Struggles, Grit, and Determination

Babita comes from a very humble background. Her father, Bindulal Singh, works as a helper in a private school, her mother is a homemaker, and her brother Prashant Singh is employed at the post office. Despite financial hardships, Babita never gave up on her dream.

Unable to afford coaching classes, she relied on YouTube and Telegram to prepare for the competitive exams. She made her own notes and started preparing for the JPSC in 2021. Her disciplined self-study and relentless effort led her to this proud moment.

Recognition and Celebrations

The Superintendent of Police, Dumka, Pitambar Singh Khairwar, felicitated Babita and her family at his residence with a shawl, bouquet, and sweets. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Babita has proven that lack of resources is not an excuse. One can achieve success using whatever tools are available with dedication and commitment.”

Members of the Pahariya community have been visiting Babita’s home to celebrate her success, presenting shawls and bouquets to her and her parents. Many tribal students now consider Babita a role model and source of inspiration.

“Hard Work Can Achieve Any Goal” – Babita Singh

A Beacon of Hope for Her Community

On this occasion, community leader Basant Pahariya said, “Babita’s success has made the entire Pahariya community proud. We will take her story to every household. Her journey is a ray of hope for our youth, many of whom are struggling with illiteracy and addiction.”
