Thane, June 22: A major mishap was averted on Sunday when a large tree collapsed in Maharashtra’s Thane city, damaging several vehicles but causing no injuries. The incident took place in the Kasarvadavali area along the busy Ghodbunder Road.
According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the tree came crashing down on three parked cars and an autorickshaw. Fortunately, no one was inside the vehicles at the time of the incident.
Authorities were quickly alerted, and emergency response teams were dispatched to the location. The area was cordoned off, and municipal workers began clearing the debris immediately to avoid traffic disruption on the key arterial road.
Preliminary reports suggest that the tree may have weakened due to recent monsoon showers, a common issue in urban areas where aging or poorly maintained trees become vulnerable to collapse.
The TMC has advised residents and motorists to exercise caution during the monsoon season and avoid parking vehicles under large trees or weak structures. They have also promised a thorough inspection of other potentially dangerous trees in the area.
The incident serves as a reminder of the hidden dangers that come with heavy rains and changing weather patterns in urban landscapes. Local residents have requested the civic body to take proactive steps to prune or remove trees that pose a risk to life and property.
While there was no loss of life or injury, the damaged vehicles suffered significant dents and broken windshields. The municipal corporation is currently assessing the property loss and considering compensation options for the affected owners.
Further investigation is underway to ensure preventive action in other vulnerable spots across the city.
