Delhi Election 2025: BJP’s Historic Comeback, AAP Faces Crushing Defeat

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stormed back to power in Delhi after more than two decades, securing a decisive victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a humiliating defeat, losing significant ground as BJP clinched 48 of the 70 seats, leaving AAP with just 22.

PM Modi’s Victory Speech: ‘Development and Good Governance Won’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed BJP’s massive win, calling it a mandate for development and good governance. In a post on X, he stated, “My salute and congratulations to all my brothers and sisters for giving a historic victory to BJP. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring Delhi’s all-round development and making the lives of its people better.” Modi also acknowledged the relentless efforts of BJP workers who worked tirelessly for the party’s success.

Amit Shah’s Swipe at AAP: ‘Delhi Has Taught a Lesson’

Home Minister Amit Shah took a direct jab at AAP and its leader Arvind Kejriwal, stating that the people of Delhi had “taught a lesson to those who break promises.” He criticized the former CM for alleged corruption and mismanagement, saying the election result “sets an example for those who make false promises.”

AAP’s Collapse: Kejriwal Loses His Own Seat

One of the biggest shocks of the election came when Delhi’s outgoing Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, lost his New Delhi Assembly seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma. In a short video statement, Kejriwal conceded defeat, saying, “The people’s decision is paramount. I congratulate the BJP on its victory and hope they fulfill the expectations of Delhi’s citizens.”

AAP’s Atishi, who played a crucial role in the party’s campaign, admitted the loss was a major setback but vowed to continue fighting against BJP’s policies.

Why Did AAP Lose?

The AAP’s collapse can be attributed to several factors:

  • Corruption Allegations: Kejriwal’s alleged involvement in the liquor excise policy scam severely damaged his image. His six-month stint in Tihar Jail ahead of the elections further fueled doubts about his leadership.
  • Broken Promises: The party’s failure to clean the Yamuna River, improve air quality, and address crumbling infrastructure left voters disillusioned.
  • BJP’s Strategy: The BJP effectively won over middle-class voters with tax rebates and secured the support of women through direct cash transfer schemes.

The Road Ahead for Delhi

With BJP back in power, all eyes are now on how the party will govern the national capital. Prime Minister Modi has assured that Delhi will play a crucial role in building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). The party has promised massive infrastructure upgrades, women-centric policies, and a crackdown on corruption.

Meanwhile, AAP faces an existential crisis. With its influence shrinking rapidly, questions arise over its future, and whether Kejriwal can lead a comeback or if new leadership is required.

The political landscape of Delhi has changed dramatically. As BJP takes the reins, the coming months will define whether this victory translates into real change for Delhi’s citizens.
