Woman Shot in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar; Two Held, One Linked to 2024 Case

New Delhi, Aug 2: A woman was shot in South Delhi’s upscale Vasant Vihar area on July 30, allegedly by two men on a motorcycle. The Delhi Police have arrested the suspects, identified as Abuzair Safi (30) and Aman Sukhla, in connection with the incident.

According to officials, the woman was traveling in an auto-rickshaw and speaking on her phone when the assailants approached from behind on a black motorcycle. Police say Abuzair Safi allegedly opened fire, hitting the woman in the chest.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, where she continues to receive treatment. Her condition has not been officially disclosed, but authorities confirmed that she is stable and under observation.

A senior police official revealed that the woman had earlier filed a criminal case in 2024 involving Abuzair, one of the arrested men. Investigators believe the shooting may have been an attempt to silence or intimidate her. “We are probing all angles, including the possibility of revenge,” the officer said.

The weapon used in the crime has been recovered, and both accused have been booked under charges including attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and illegal possession of firearms.

Police said CCTV footage and mobile surveillance helped track the suspects. The motorcycle used in the attack was found abandoned in a nearby locality.

The case has sparked concern about women’s safety and the brazenness of daylight attacks in the capital. Local residents have urged authorities to increase police patrolling in the area.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine whether others were involved or if the attack was premeditated. The police are also reviewing the 2024 case details to understand any possible threats to the victim prior to the shooting.
