नवी दिल्ली – २ जूनचा दिवस इतिहासात अनेक कारणांनी महत्त्वाचा आहे. याच दिवशी ब्रिटनच्या महाराणी एलिझाबेथ द्वितीय यांचा राज्याभिषेक झाला होता. एलिझाबेथ यांना ६ फेब्रुवारी १९५२ रोजी त्यांचे वडील राजा जॉर्ज सहावे यांचे निधन झाल्यानंतर राणी घोषित करण्यात आले होते, पण त्यांचा औपचारिक राज्याभिषेक २ जून १९५३ रोजी करण्यात आला.
या राज्याभिषेकानंतर एलिझाबेथ द्वितीय ब्रिटनसह कॅनडा, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, न्यूझीलंड आणि इतर कॉमनवेल्थ राष्ट्रांची राणी बनल्या. त्यांच्या राज्याभिषेकाचा समारंभ जगभरात प्रसारित झाला होता आणि तो टेलिव्हिजनवर दाखवला जाणारा पहिला अशा प्रकारचा कार्यक्रम ठरला होता.
दुर्दैवाने, याच दिवशी दुसऱ्या एका भीषण घटनेने भारताला हादरवले. २ जून २०२३ रोजी ओडिशामधील बालासोर जिल्ह्यात कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस, बेंगळुरू-हावडा एक्सप्रेस आणि एका मालगाडीच्या अपघातात २८८ जणांचा मृत्यू झाला. या दुर्घटनेमध्ये शेकडो लोक जखमी झाले आणि ती भारतातील सर्वात मोठ्या रेल्वे अपघातांपैकी एक ठरली.
२ जून हा दिवस इतिहासातील गौरवशाली आणि दुःखद घटनांची साक्ष देणारा आहे – एका बाजूला शाही परंपरेचे प्रतीक असलेला राज्याभिषेक आणि दुसऱ्या बाजूला मानवी जिवीतहानी घडवणारा शोकांत अपघात.
