Two teenage girls were found dead inside a Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kerala’s Kollam district on Tuesday, triggering shock and grief among fellow trainees, staff, and local residents.
According to officials, the girls were students enrolled at the SAI training facility and were residing at the hostel as part of their sports education programme. Their bodies were discovered inside a hostel room after they failed to respond to repeated calls from staff members.
Police Investigation Underway
Local police rushed to the spot after being alerted by hostel authorities. A preliminary investigation has been initiated, and forensic teams have examined the room. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police officials said that no immediate signs of external injury were visible, but added that all possibilities — including suicide, accident, or foul play — are being investigated. Statements of hostel staff, students, and officials are being recorded.
SAI and State Authorities Respond
The Sports Authority of India has informed the families of the deceased and assured full cooperation with the investigation. Senior SAI officials are expected to visit the hostel, while the Kerala Sports Department has sought a detailed report on the incident.
“The safety and well-being of trainees is our top priority. We are extending all support to the families,” an official statement said.
Shock Among Trainees
The incident has sent shockwaves through the hostel, with several trainees reportedly in distress. Counselling support has been arranged for students, and hostel activities have been temporarily suspended.
What Happens Next
Police said further details would emerge after post-mortem reports and forensic analysis are completed. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is concluded.
