Dr Meenakshi Deshpande, chairperson of the Aao Gaon Chale programme at IMA Pune, told that this was an ambitious project where IMA branches have been instructed to adopt at least one village for regular health prevention activities. The nearest health facility for the villagers in this hamlet is a primary health care centre in Panshet, which is at least 5-8kms away.
Dr Raju Varyani, president of IMA Pune, said villagers were checked for their haemoglobin and blood sugar levels, among other blood tests. Complete lab-checking was done for people aged above 35. At least 31 girls aged between nine and 14 were immunized against cervical cancer with the HPV vaccine while screening tests were performed for women in the age group of 25-60 years.
