President Droupadi Murmu hailed Operation Sindoor as a “golden chapter in humanity’s victory against terrorism” during her address at the SCOPE Eminence Awards today. She emphasised the pivotal role played by public sector undertakings (PSUs) in crafting the Akashteer Air Defence Control and Reporting System, a homegrown marvel that underpinned India’s defence response, enabling precision and reliability in counter-terror operations. “This operation completely destroyed terrorist camps and thwarted attempts to attack India,” she stated, calling it a matter of “great pride” for the nation’s PSUs.
Launched on May 7, 2025, directly in response to the brutal April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives (including one Nepali national), the Indian Armed Forces executed a precision strike against nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Importantly, the operation avoided military or civilian infrastructure and was described as “focused, measured and non-escalatory.”
The strike, carried out over 23 to 25 minutes, destroyed major terror infrastructure tied to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Indian officials cited over 100 terrorists neutralized across the targeted locations.

President Murmu highlighted the operation’s embodiment of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) in defence. She declared that Operation Sindoor not only reaffirmed India’s military readiness but also showcased its growing capability to safeguard its citizens with indigenous technology.
