The opposition alliance INDIA bloc is considering legal action against the special revision of the voter list in Bihar, expressing serious concerns over the move’s implications for marginalized communities.
RJD leader Manoj Jha raised objections, stating that the Election Commission’s position on the migrant population could endanger the voting rights of Dalits, Backward Classes, and minority groups. He argued that since these communities often migrate out of the state in search of employment, excluding them during the revision process would amount to disenfranchisement.
The INDIA bloc believes that the revision could be used politically to manipulate voter demographics, especially in a state like Bihar where migration for livelihood is widespread. The alliance is now reportedly consulting legal experts to challenge the move in court, ensuring that no eligible voter is removed from the rolls due to temporary migration.The Election Commission has not yet issued a formal response to the INDIA bloc’s objections.
