Dumka district police have successfully solved the recent murder case involving the recovery of a decomposed body of a woman from Gobargada under Jarmundi police station.
The deceased has been identified as Sukumani Soren. After extensive investigation and continuous interrogation of two suspects, the police arrested Mangal Murmu (29), a resident of Taljhari police station area, who confessed to the crime.
According to the statement by Superintendent of Police Pitambar Singh Khirwar, the accused Mangal Murmu was the brother-in-law of the deceased and was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with her. On the day of the incident, he called Sukumani to meet near a tree in a village close to Basukinath railway station. A dispute occurred between them, during which the victim slapped Mangal. In a fit of rage, he attacked her with a stone, leading to her death on the spot.
In an attempt to hide the crime, the accused hid the body under a pile of cow dung and fled the scene. The police have recovered key evidence and, after confession during interrogation, the accused has been sent to judicial custody.
