Former national coach and Dronacharya awardee U. Vimal Kumar has expressed concerns over the recent performances of Indian shuttlers in major tournaments. He highlighted that while players like Lakshya Sen have shown promise, there’s a pressing need for greater consistency to succeed in high-tier events. Kumar emphasized that for India to make a significant mark in international badminton, players must consistently perform and clinch titles in prestigious tournaments.
Additionally, Kumar pointed out that some players exhibit potential but struggle to transition into the top echelons of the sport. He mentioned that despite notable victories, the lack of consistent performance hinders their progress into the top 30 rankings, which is crucial for regular participation in Super Series events.
Regarding women’s badminton, Kumar remains optimistic due to the emergence of a talented group of young players. However, he noted a common shortcoming: the inability to effectively finish rallies. Kumar stressed the importance of developing a sharp finishing stroke to compete successfully on bigger stages.
while Indian badminton has a pool of talented players, Vimal Kumar believes that achieving consistency and refining specific skills are essential steps toward securing victories in major international events.
