Maharashtra has once again witnessed a case of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants using forged documents to reside in India. This time, a fake birth certificate racket has been exposed in Latur, a district in the Marathwada region. A case has been registered against nine accused involved in this fraud. Similar incidents of Bangladeshi nationals acquiring fake birth certificates have previously surfaced in Malegaon, Amravati, Jalna, and Sambhajinagar.
FIR Registered in Latur
An FIR (No. 89) was registered in Latur on March 13 under sections 318(4), 338, 336(3), and 340(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which include serious charges of fraud, forgery, and misrepresentation. All the accused are Bangladeshi nationals who were illegally residing in Maharashtra. They allegedly used counterfeit documents to obtain Indian birth certificates.

Allegations Against the Accused
The accused are alleged to have obtained Indian birth certificates using fake Aadhaar cards, forged documents, and false affidavits. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya brought this racket to light, sharing the details on social media.

Kirit Somaiya has previously raised concerns about illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Maharashtra. On January 22, he posted on social media, claiming that 15,845 Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in Akola district had obtained fake birth certificates. He also demanded an investigation into the matter.
Somaiya further alleged that hundreds of fake birth certificates were issued in different parts of Akola district. He claimed that these fraudulent documents were used during the enforcement of the 2024 election code of conduct. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also taken a strong stance against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, calling for strict action against such cases.
