Police on Thursday apprehended two men in connection with a gold chain theft case and recovered a stolen ornament weighing two tolas from their possession.
According to police sources, the duo had allegedly stolen the gold chain from a woman in a crowded market area. After committing the theft, they attempted to flee the spot by boarding a passenger bus. Acting swiftly on information received, a police team stopped the bus at a checkpoint and carried out a search of passengers. During the inspection, the stolen gold chain was recovered from the accused.
Both men were immediately taken into custody. During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted their involvement in the crime. Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether they are linked to other incidents of chain-snatching and theft in the region.
The recovered gold chain has been secured and will be returned to the rightful owner after legal formalities. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and produced the accused before the court.
Authorities praised the prompt action of the police team, which helped in arresting the culprits before they could escape with the stolen property.
