Ranchi: A sharp political tussle has emerged in Jharkhand between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), its ally Congress, and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the state’s healthcare system. On Friday, BJP state president and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi made serious allegations, accusing the government of wrecking healthcare services.
In response, Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari dismissed the accusations as baseless and termed them as petty political attacks. The JMM also hit back strongly at Marandi.
“Where Are the Ambulances?”
Targeting the government, Marandi claimed that Jharkhand’s healthcare system has completely collapsed. Citing a specific incident, he said that an injured person had to be taken to the hospital in a tempo (a three-wheeled vehicle) instead of an ambulance. Taking a dig at the Health Minister, Marandi alleged that while the minister is busy patting his own back, the poor and needy can’t even access government ambulances.
He further accused the government of using fake advertisements about air ambulances to gain public praise. Marandi claimed the situation is so dismal that even the Chief Minister and ministers avoid getting their own family members treated in state-run hospitals.
“Stop Playing Politics Over Humanity” – Irfan Ansari
In a strong rebuttal, State Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari outrightly rejected Marandi’s claims, calling them low-level and dirty politics. Referring to the same incident, he explained that since it would have taken 25 minutes for the ambulance to arrive, he immediately arranged for an auto. When that failed, he transported the injured person in his personal vehicle to the hospital.
Dr. Ansari stated that the patient is now recovering well and their family is expressing gratitude. Taking aim at Marandi, he remarked that BJP workers passed by the scene but offered no help.
He asked, “Is this your idea of compassion?” and urged Marandi not to drag humanity into the mud of political blame games.
