Technology Base: Built using Meta’s Llama 3 architecture, trained on data native to Latin America to better represent its languages, cultures, and social context .
Mission: Designed not as a competitor to consumer platforms like ChatGPT, but as a foundational infrastructure for region‑specific applications (education, healthcare, public services) with a strong emphasis on cultural relevance and accessibility .
Language Inclusion: Begins with a Rapa Nui translator, with future plans to support other Indigenous languages such as Mapudungún, Nahuatl, Quechua, and Caribbean variants .
Infrastructure & Support: Training is performed on a distributed network including computing facilities at Chile’s University of Tarapacá, with financial and cloud support from the regional development bank CAF and Amazon Web Services .
Funding Status: Currently lacks a dedicated budget. Project leaders—including CENIA director Álvaro Soto—are hoping the model’s early demonstrations will attract further investment .
