Virat Kohli has reportedly informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his intention to retire from Test cricket ahead of India’s upcoming five-match series against England, starting on June 20, 2025. This decision follows the recent retirement of Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, leaving a significant leadership void in the Indian Test team.
In response, the BCCI is actively seeking to persuade Kohli to reconsider his decision. They have enlisted the help of a “highly influential cricketing figure” to engage with Kohli in the coming days, aiming to convince him to continue his Test career, especially with the crucial England tour approaching.
While the identity of this influential figure has not been officially disclosed, reports suggest that the BCCI is considering reaching out to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar to speak with Kohli.
Kohli, 36, has been a cornerstone of India’s Test team, amassing 9,230 runs in 123 matches with 30 centuries. Despite a dip in form in recent years, his leadership and presence remain pivotal to the team’s dynamics.
The BCCI hopes that this intervention will encourage Kohli to extend his Test career, providing stability and experience to the team during this transitional phase.
