Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the Yonex Sunrise North East Zone Inter-State and Zonal Badminton Championship 2025 on September 4 at the Netaji Subhash Regional Coaching Centre (NSRCC) Indoor Hall in Agartala. The four-day event, organized by the Tripura Badminton Association, has attracted over 200 players from all eight North Eastern states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

In his inaugural address, CM Saha emphasized the role of sports in fostering unity, discipline, and patriotism, highlighting the championship as a celebration of the region’s diversity and talent. He also announced significant investments in sports infrastructure, including the construction of two multi-purpose indoor halls and a 200-bed sports hostel, aimed at enhancing the state’s sporting facilities.
Over 200 players from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and newly included Sikkim are participating in the four-day event. Dr. Saha emphasized the role of sports in promoting unity, discipline, and patriotism, calling the event a celebration of the North East’s diversity and talent.

He highlighted Tripura’s recent investments in sports infrastructure and announced upcoming projects, including two multi-purpose indoor halls and a 200-bed sports hostel. Congratulating the players, he urged them to compete with integrity and explore Tripura’s scenic beauty during their stay.

The championship promises intense competition and exciting performances, making Agartala the epicentre of badminton action for the next few days.
