Determination and Hard Work: Tribal Girl from Jharkhand Cracks JPSC, Becomes Administrative Officer

When there is strong determination and relentless hard work, no dream is too distant. This has been proven true by a tribal daughter of Jharkhand — Babita Singh from Dumka — who has set a remarkable example by succeeding in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination against all odds.

In the narrow, dusty lanes of Asansol, a small village in Dumka — the sub-capital of Jharkhand — lives Babita Singh, a proud daughter of the Pahariya tribe. It is from this remote corner that she rose to achieve something that has filled hearts with pride across the state.

Babita secured the 337th rank in the JPSC exam and has now earned a place in the Jharkhand Administrative Service. Coming from a community that still struggles with access to education and basic resources, her journey breaks long-held stereotypes and sets a powerful precedent.

Babita’s father works as a helper in a private school, her mother is a homemaker, and her brother is employed at the post office. Financial constraints were such that moving to Ranchi for coaching was never an option. Even in Dumka, she could only afford two months of coaching before having to discontinue due to lack of funds.

But Babita didn’t let this become a hurdle. Instead, she turned to YouTube and Telegram, using free online resources as her primary tools for preparation. With self-discipline and rigorous study using books, she molded her path to success.

“I did self-study. Whenever I felt demotivated, my parents and brother gave me strength. I had decided that I wouldn’t marry until I secured a government job,” Babita shared. Her parents fully supported this decision.

In a village where there are no proper roads or clean drinking water, Babita is now set to become a part of the very system that can bring change.

She expresses a strong desire to work for her community so that more girls can pursue education, move ahead in life, and help shift societal mindsets.

Babita’s father, Bindu Singh, said:

“We moved from the mountains of Masaliya block to Dumka so our children could study. Today, our daughter’s hard work has paid off.”

Her brother, Prashant Singh, added:

“Her dedication can’t be described in words. It was the support of our parents and her unshakable confidence that led her to this achievement.”

Today, Babita Singh is an inspiration to daughters across Jharkhand. She has shown that with unwavering resolve, even the lack of resources cannot stop someone from achieving their dreams.
