Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor, known for his distinctive storytellingand realistic cinema, recently spoke about the challenges he faces in the Indian film industry. He admitted that his biggest problem is that he doesn’t always choose big stars for his films, which often affects the commercial prospects of his projects.
Kukunoor explained that he prefers working with actors who truly fit the character rather than casting based on popularity. While this approach brings authenticity to his films, it also makes it harder to attract producers and distributors, since the industry often prioritizes star power over content.
Despite these hurdles, the director remains committed to his vision of meaningful cinema. He said that he’s aware his choices may limit the box-office reach of his films, but he values storytelling above all.
