Heroin Worth Over ₹5 Crore Seized in Assam’s Cachar, One Arrested

Guwahati, June 28: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Assam’s Cachar district seized heroin worth over ₹5 crore and arrested a suspected drug peddler during an operation on Friday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the operation via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“Acting on credible intelligence, @cacharpolice conducted a decisive anti-narcotics operation in Silchar,” Sarma stated. “A large quantity of heroin has been recovered and one person arrested.”

The Chief Minister praised the efforts of the police and reiterated his government’s firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the state. He said that this successful operation is part of the ongoing war against drugs, which the Assam government is pursuing with full determination.

According to sources, the heroin was seized from the outskirts of Silchar city where the accused was reportedly attempting to transport the consignment. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth more than ₹5 crore in the international market.

This latest bust adds to a growing list of successful anti-drug operations conducted by Assam Police in recent months. The consistent efforts have led to large-scale seizures and multiple arrests across the state.

Officials emphasized that the anti-narcotics drive will continue with increased intensity in the coming days. Security agencies are on high alert, especially in districts close to interstate and international borders, which are often exploited by drug traffickers.

The operation marks another milestone in Assam’s fight against narcotics and sends a strong message to those involved in drug smuggling.
