FIFA World Cup 2026 Azteca Stadium in Mexico to featureextensive LED upgrades.

To recap, Azteca Stadium will soon offer: a hybrid turf, modernized locker rooms and tunnels, new elevators, top-tier hospitality and media facilities, increased seating, extensive LED upgrades, and improved surrounding transit and infrastructure—all aiming to create a world-class venue for its historic third World Cup appearance.
The iconic venue closed last May for renovations ahead of next year’s 48-team competition hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada.
The entire renovation is backed by approximately 2.1 billion pesos (~$110 million), funded via a loan from Banorte .The stadium—officially rebranded Estadio Banorte—is set to reopen in March 2026, just in time for the opening match on June 11, 2026 .
These stadium improvements are part of a broader urban renewal effort in the Tlalpan area. It includes better roads, bike lanes, public transit upgrades (like expanded light rail), enhanced lighting, and new pedestrian zones.
Significant upgrades to hospitality suites, VIP lounges, and a revamped press room are underway—including bars, restaurants, and expanded media facilities to meet FIFA standards.
Brand-new, FIFA-compliant locker rooms are being built beneath the suites, alongside an underground tunnel that leads to the field—enhancing player comfort and security.
