Shirsat stated Jayant Patil is in no mood to stay in NCP (SP) for long.

Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra minister Sanjay Shirsat has claimed that senior NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil is poised to leave Sharad Pawar’s party to join Ajit Pawar’s faction. Shirsat stated, “Jayant Patil is in no mood to stay in NCP (SP) for long. There will be an earthquake in Sharad Pawar’s party. You will see Jayant Patil joining Ajit Pawar’s NCP.”

These remarks have intensified speculation about Patil’s political future, especially following his recent ambiguous comments about his position. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar observed that Patil’s recent behavior suggests he may be contemplating a significant decision, noting, “We can only guess what he wants to say. I am not sure of the inference behind his remark.”

NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule responded to Shirsat’s assertions by labeling them as complimentary, stating that their rivals recognize the value of leaders like Jayant Patil despite their own organizational strengths.

The NCP experienced a split in 2023 when Ajit Pawar and his supporters joined the Mahayuti alliance, subsequently securing the party’s official name and symbol. Sharad Pawar’s faction became known as NCP (SP). In the most recent Maharashtra assembly elections, Ajit Pawar’s NCP secured 41 seats, while NCP (SP) obtained only 10, fueling speculation about potential shifts among its leaders.
