Public sector energy major GAIL (India) Limited has witnessed a key leadership transition with Deepak Gupta assuming charge as the company’s new Chairman and Managing Director.
The appointment comes at a time when India is expanding its natural gas infrastructure and working to increase the share of gas in the country’s overall energy mix.
Gupta brings extensive experience in the energy sector and is expected to focus on strengthening the company’s pipeline network, expanding liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations, and improving operational efficiency.
GAIL plays a crucial role in India’s energy ecosystem, operating thousands of kilometers of natural gas pipelines and supplying gas to industries, power plants, and households.
Industry analysts believe the leadership change comes at a significant time as India aims to increase the share of natural gas in its energy consumption to support cleaner energy goals.
The company has also been investing in new energy initiatives, including hydrogen and renewable energy projects.
Officials say the new leadership will focus on strengthening domestic gas supply networks while also exploring international partnerships and technological innovations to support India’s long-term energy security strategy.
