The court sentenced a man to <\/span><\/span><strong data-start=\"487\" data-end=\"522\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">30 years of rigorous imprisonment<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> for repeatedly raping a minor girl, impregnating her, and causing her to give birth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"541\" data-end=\"743\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The convict <\/span><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">was identified as <\/span><\/span><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Nagesh Karappa Lamani (31) , a resident of Kangrali (KH) village in Belagavi district. The court convicted him under various sections of the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"745\" data-end=\"1131\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">According to the prosecution, the accused sexually abused a minor girl over a prolonged period. The victim was under 18 years of age at the time of the incident. The accused took advantage of the victim&#8217;s age and her vulnerable social status to rape her multiple times. During the incident, the victim became pregnant and later gave birth to a child. When the victim&#8217;s family learned of the incident, they filed a police complaint.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1133\" data-end=\"1470\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Given the seriousness of the case, the police immediately launched an investigation. During the investigation, the victim&#8217;s statement, medical examination reports, DNA testing, and other crucial evidence were collected. Based on this evidence, a charge sheet was filed against the accused. During the court hearing, the prosecution presented strong and convincing evidence that proved the accused&#8217;s guilt.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1781\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">In its ruling, the special POCSO court stated that sexual offenses against minor children are extremely heinous and that severe punishment is necessary for such crimes to send a strong message to society. The court also clarified that the consent of a minor has no legal significance and that no relief can be granted to the accused in such cases.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1783\" data-end=\"2062\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The court also imposed a monetary penalty on the accused and directed the government to provide compensation, protection, and rehabilitation to the victim and her child as required by law. Child protection officials were also ordered to ensure the victim&#8217;s mental, social, and financial support.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2064\" data-end=\"2294\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Women&#8217;s and child rights organizations have praised this decision.
