Two Tourists Drown in Pune’s Bhushi Dam Reservoir

Pune (June 8): A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at the famous Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, Pune district, where two individuals drowned while enjoying a picnic. The victims were part of a group of tourists who had gathered at the dam to enjoy the weekend amid scenic surroundings and water activities.

According to the local police, the two individuals ventured into the reservoir despite multiple warning signs and the presence of slippery rocks, which are known to be dangerous, especially during the monsoon and pre-monsoon periods.

The police added that the area is often overcrowded on weekends, attracting hundreds of tourists. This leads to challenges in managing crowds and enforcing safety regulations. Rescue operations were launched immediately after the incident was reported, and the bodies were later recovered by the disaster response team.

Officials reiterated that visitors must follow safety instructions strictly and avoid entering restricted zones. They are also considering increasing the deployment of lifeguards and signage at popular spots like Bhushi Dam to prevent future mishaps.

Locals have demanded stricter safety enforcement, while authorities have urged people to prioritize safety over adventure during such outings
