Forget the Mughal Aurangzeb, Remember the New One”: Sanjay Raut Sparks Controversy

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has stirred political controversy in Maharashtra by comparing the BJP government to Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. He claimed that the BJP’s rule in the state is worse than Aurangzeb’s reign, alleging that government policies are driving farmers to suicide.

Raut stated, “Forget the Mughal Aurangzeb, it’s time to remember the new Aurangzeb,” directly targeting the BJP’s governance. He accused the government of rising unemployment and worsening agrarian distress, arguing that these issues are a result of BJP policies, not Mughal-era atrocities.

His remarks have triggered sharp reactions, with BJP leaders dismissing his claims outright. Raut, however, doubled down, questioning whether the increasing suicides in Maharashtra are a consequence of BJP’s governance.

The statement has once again ignited political tensions in Maharashtra, raising concerns over the impact of the current administration’s policies on farmers and the general public
